ABOUT RICK WOOD

We are all wanderers, and most of us are truly lost.

I was born in Bavaria, a state of Germany, in the early 1970s. When I say that I am a citizen of the World, it's neither in jest nor an exaggeration.

My kindergarten year of school was completed on three continents; Asia, North America and Europe.

I've lived in five countries, and am fortunate enough to have visited more than 27 different nations. My travels have taken me around the world. More than 13 years of my life were spent living among other cultures abroad.

These days I base myself out of Washington State (USA), where I am a filmmaker and writer.

Prior to profound hearing loss from Meniere's Disease, I was a staff journalist with several publications around the Pacific Northwest. I am a seven time winner of Washington Newspaper Publisher Association awards for excellence in writing and photography. In 2011, I was part of a news team recognized with a Keith L. Ware Award. My photography has been featured in a digital exhibit at Burke Museum in Seattle, WA, and as the "Featured Artist" for the 2007 Port Susan Snow Goose and Birding Festival.

My first book, "Nature Aware (2012)," has been Number One on the Kindle Bestsellers list more than five times.

My film work includes award-winning documentaries on endangered species.

When I'm not writing or behind the camera, I volunteer as a marine mammal stranding responder, helping save starnded and injured animals.
