Why this trip? Why this story? Why now?

Welcome to "the blog." Here you'll find posts about the themes I'll explore, the animal species I intend to see, the country of Tanzania and its beautiful culture, and updates about the project as a whole.

Let's knock this part out...

WHY THIS TRIP?

Tanzania is situated in the African Rift Valley, and is the birthplace of modern Humans. Its unique geology, flora and fauna helped shape who we are as a species. Tanzania is also within the path of the annual Great Migration. Figuring out where we came from and what shaped us is compelling to me.

WHY THIS STORY?

It's the story of us all, and more pressingly it's the story of what is happening to the cradle of Mankind.

Global Climate Change is a relentless force driving instability and change on every continent. We usually see the end results as new and sensational news stories: war, famine, natural disaster, animal extinction. I have a sneaking suspicion, rather than hunkering down and fearing our brothers and sisters abroad, that we NEED one another to survive.

WHY NOW?

That's the thing about life; you really have no clue how long you get to be here. Add to that the fact the "Big Five" species are in dangerous decline, and the window of opportunity to see elephants, rhino or lions in the wild may soon be taken from us all.
